Math Olympiad
The Program
THE MATH OLYMPIAD PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED TO INCREASE THE INTEREST IN MATH WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON FEMALE PARTICIPATION. THE TOP SIXTEEN, GRADE-7 AND GRADE-8, STUDENTS IN EACH PUBLIC SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. AT LEAST HALF OF THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATING MUST BE FEMALE.
DURING AN EIGHT WEEK PERIOD, EACH SCHOOL’S MATH OLYMPIAD TEAM PARTICIPATES, ONCE A WEEK FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES, IN VARIOUS CREATIVE, ENRICHING ACTIVITIES THAT INCORPORATE THE USE OF MATH SKILLS, PROBLEM-SOLVING, AND CRITICAL-THINKING SKILLS. THE PROGRAM CULMINATES WITH A MATH OLYMPIAD COMPETITION WHERE EACH SCHOOL PARTICIPATES FOR INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM AWARDS. THE PROGRAM IS SPONSORED AND SUPPORTED BY THE BCB COMMUNITY BANK.
