Annual Report 2011- 2012
THE BAYONNE EDUCATION FOUNDATION (BEF) IS AN INDEPENDENT, NONPROFIT 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION AND MEMBER OF THE NEW JERSEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP. IT IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A SOURCE OF FUNDS TO THE BAYONNE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE VIA FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL PUBLIC SOURCES.
THE BAYONNE EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS COMMITTED TO ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION IN BAYONNE SCHOOLS BY:
. BROADENING THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
. ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING COMMUNITY-WIDE INTEREST AND INVOLVEMENT
. FOSTERING AND PROMOTING INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
IN 2011- 2012 SCHOOL YEAR, THE BAYONNE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, COMPOSED OF A CROSS SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY, AND THE BAYONNE BOARD OF EDUCATION CONTINUED TO WORK TOGETHER TO HELP OUR SCHOOL LEADERS ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO TEACHING AND LEARNING.
TWO YEARS AGO, THE BEF EXPANDED ITS IMPACT BY FUNDING THE RENOVATION OF A BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM WITH 21ST CENTURY TECHNOLOGY. BUILDING OFF THE MOMENTUM OF THIS STRATEGIC STEP, THIS SCHOOL YEAR HAS BEEN AN EXCITING TIME FOR THE FOUNDATION, SPONSORING NUMEROUS ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS, INCLUDING:
. THE 9TH ANNUAL MATH OLYMPIAD COMPETITION, AN 8-WEEK PROGRAM INVOLVING 150 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS
. AN ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION PROGRAM INVOLVING A RESEEDING OF MUSSELL BEDS IN NEWARK BAY AND AN OSPREY NESTING HABITAT PROJECT
. SCHRIPPS SPELLING BEE COMPETITION
. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIRE SAFETY BOWL
. THE PURCHASE OF A THESAURUS FOR EACH 5TH GRADE STUDENT
. FUNDS ALLOCATED TO THE BHS DRAMA CLUB TO SUPPORT OUR PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM
. AWARDING TEN MINI-GRANTS AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL FOR CREATIVE, EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITIES
. FUNDING FOR THE “MATH BOOST (SUMMER) PROGRAM”, A TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS MOVING TO THE SECONDARY SCHOOL.
. PROYECTO SCIENCE CONSORTIUM SCHOLARSHIPS, A THREE-YEAR SUMMER PROGRAM FOR 7TH GRADE STUDENTS HELD AT NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY.
THE FUNDING OF THESE PROGRAMS WAS POSSIBLE DUE TO GENEROUS CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM BCB COMMUNITY BANK, PSE&G. JR TRANSPORTATION, BAYONNE GOLF CLUB, AND HERBERT’S ARMY AND NAVY STORE. FUNDING WAS PROVIDED ALSO THROUGH OUR ICE RINK SIGNAGE ADVERTISING PROGRAM, A DUPREES CONCERT, AND OUR ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT THE POINTE RESTAURANT. FINALLY, WE ARE GRATEFUL TO THE COMMUNITY FOR ITS SUPPORT, TRUSTEES DONATIONS, AND THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF COMMUNITY LEADERS, SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND STAFF.
2012-2013-2014
AN AMBITIOUS SCHEDULE OF FUNDRAISING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ARE BEING PLANNED FOR THE NEXT TWO SCHOOL YEARS, INCLUDING:
. TRIBUTE TO TEACHER HOLIDAY CARDS;
. DANCING WITH THE COMMUNITY STARS CONCERT;
. CORPORATE GRANTS;
. “A TASTE OF BAYONNE” FOOD FESTIVAL
. THE FIRST ANNUAL “SPRING TO SUMMER” 5K RACE; AND
. THE BEF’S ANNUAL ANNIVERSITY CELEBRATION AT THE POINTE RESTAURANT
IN KEEPING WITH OUR THEME “PARTNERS IN EDUCATION”, THE BAYONNE EDUCATION FOUNDATION COULD NOT HAVE ACCOMPLISHED ANY OF THIS WITHOUT THE EFFORTS OF OUR TRUSTEES AND THE SUPPORT OF THE BAYONNE BOARD OF EDUCATION, AND THE COMMUNITY. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING EVEN MORE IN THE 2012- 2013 SCHOOL YEAR WITH YOU!
